Bullying in the Classroom

School is a place where parents send their children to learn and be educated in a safe, trustworthy enviornment. I think back and remember the times of my elementary years where there were bullies in the classroom and I always wanted to steer away from them. Though I look back now and notice how young I was, I wasn't young in my own mind back in those days and the bullies were mean. The bullying these days is way worse then what bullying was cosidered when I was too young to understand what a bully even was. Every classroom has at least one and within that classroom, every student knows who that bully is. It all comes down to parenting and there are a numerous amount of parents who need to be more strict, more responsible, and know everything possible that goes on with their child in school. Bullys do verbal, physical and emotional insults and the bullying in the classroom needs to stop. Though it doesn't seem long enough for bullying to drastically change over my school years, it has. Bullying among elementary school children and teenagers is a growing problem in many schools in the United States. It's happening in urban, suburban and rural schools; and kids who have learning disabilites are vulnerable to bullying problems. Professionals have proven that bullying is a learned behavior that can be prevented and that's exactly what needs to be done, starting at home. You no longer only see kids poking one another, or calling each other a dummy; you see physical aggression like fighting, shoving, or kicking, as well as name calling. And as pathetic and discusting as it is, in this particular case, setting a boy on fire. A fifteen year old boy has burns on sixty-five percent of his body after he was doused with rubbing alcohol and set on fire. This story is sad and even though this case did not take place in school, these kids still go to school together and these occurances do happen. Bullying in the classroom needs to be eliminated.
